The embattled walls and the towers of the scaligero castle give to Lazise, that lies on the oriental side of the Garda, a medieval print. The town, already inhabited in the prehistory, during roman age was called “Lasitium”. In XII century it became the first free Common of the Benaco; it passed under the Lordship of the Scaligeri that reconstructed the fortifications of XI century and made of Lazise a very fortified stronghold. Situated in the morainic area, Lazise is point of departure for walking tours towards the localities on the hills, where the nobility of Verona, in the past centuries, built his villas in order to spent there the summer and the autumn. Among the things not to miss: the scaligero castle, still inhabited, with six massive towers and the embattled walls. The little church of San Nicolò near the harbour, that is dated back to X century, later restored, has in the inside frescoes of 1300. The villa La Pergolana, situated 1 Km north of Lazise, along the main road, encloses the ancient chapel of a convent no more existing.
